The end of the regular season in the Primera RFEF (Group 2) in Alcalá resulted in another victory, the sixth consecutive home win for Fernando Torres' team. Algeciras was beaten on the final matchday, with the team managed by Fernando Torres securing a resounding 3-1 victory. Bellotti (15'), Koke Mota (25'), and Llorente (38') took the game to a 3-0 lead before halftime. Castro pulled one back for Algeciras in the 45th minute, but the score remained unchanged at 3-1. Now, the play-offs stage begins, as the Red-and-whites will face Ponferradina in a two-legged tie, with the decisive match taking place in Alcalá because of their third-place finish.

Fernando Torres celebrated the team's strong start in the first half, something that proved decisive for the victory: “I think we played the game we needed to play throughout the first half, where it was important to understand the importance of winning and waiting for other results to try and finish second-placed. And I think the team displayed a great deal of the energy and enthusiasm we've had all season, especially at home. And with that 3-1 score at halftime, the tempo slowed on the second half. It was less of what we would like, but what the game was demanding.”.

*F9T Update 24/05/26 Atlético Madrileño will play the first leg of the tie vs Ponferradina (El Toralín Pitch) on May 30th, 21:00 CET. The second is scheduled on June 6th at 18:30 CET

Regarding the regular season, Torres stated that “many positive things have happened. Nine of our players have made their first-team debuts. I think that, except for the first four matches, the team has been in playoff contention all season, with all what that means, managing all the situations that come with running a reserve team: players who have stepped up, players who have had an exceptional season individually, so that has boosted the team to grow. I think the team has improved as the season has gone by.”

“Now here comes the best part of the season; it’s the reward for a great year, and the players understand that. They’re a very tough opponent, like any of the teams we could have drawn. We need to analyse today’s match first so we can continue improving ourselves. With all the information we have about them, we know they were one of the possible opponents after their excellent second half of the season.

“They’re the most in-form team in their group during the second half of the season, so it means strong credit to them, and they’re preparing for the match in the best possible way, knowing that we have to stay true to what has brought us this far. I’m sure it will be a very exciting tie.”
