Vicente Del Bosque’s 23 players trained in a double session on Sunday, split in a morning and evening work-out at Las Rozas. Torres, who fine-tuned his eye for goal during the practice matches, showed signs that he is close to full fitness.

The Spain number ‘9’ was a threat throughout the session scoring several goals. Fernando also carved out opportunities for teammates in what was a positive run-out for the striker just under a week before the World Cup commences.

The final training session in the Spanish capital before departing for Murcia for Tuesday’s international friendly was packed with fans. Supporters of all ages flocked to the see the Spain footballers in action before the squad travel to the east coast of Spain before travelling to South Africa.

Sunday morning’s training session started with the footballers enjoying some shooting practice. The three goalkeepers, Iker Casillas, Pepe Reina and Victor Valdes, took turns trying to parry their teammates’ efforts. After some ball and tactical exercises the manager got his players to play a practice match using three quarters of the pitch.

Fernando Torres lined up alongside Arbeloa, Puyol, Pique, Capdevila, Navas, Alonso, Busquets, Pedro, Mata and Llorente. The Liverpool hitman was a constant threat in attack, often finding the back of the net for his side.

The afternoon session started with a physical work-out, before attentions turned to several ball skill exercises. Crossing, movement, pressuring opponents and shooting were the order of the day.

The players will spend the night at a hotel near Madrid Barajas airport before jetting off to Murcia on Monday morning.
