A football party in Fuenlabrada. The friendly played for the official opening of Fernando Torres Stadium was total success, although there was only one winner and that wasn’t other than Atlético de Madrid (0-3). The most emotional moment took place before the initial whistle, when Fernando Torres’ parents and brother, on the player’s behalf, came onto the pitch to be awarded with a commemorative plaque of the event from the hands of Manuel Robles, the town’s major.

The public burst into applause to honor the ‘9’, who was unable to attend the event due to the fact that he is in Switzerland gathered with the Spanish National Team. In his place, a boy wearing the dark blue color of CP Fuenlabrada was the one in charge of making the honor kick-off. After that all was invaded by the magic of football, with Atlético taking over a match in which the local team played with much enthusiasm but few accuracy. Collado, Mario Suárez and Pedro Martín scored the Atlético goals.

The local team played courageously on the pitch to face the powerful team coached by Gregorio Manzano, but things went wrong too soon. Just five minutes after the beginning Collado made a good use of a ball given by Adrián. In the 29’ a backheel from Adrián to Reyes was the prelude of the second goal, scored by Mario Suárez. The local team, coached by Antonio Rivas, got to keep Atlético at bay and even shot to the goalpost, however there were no signs of a possible comeback.

In the second half and after the necessary string of changes the match continued the same way: with Atlético looking for a goal that took long to arrive, almost at the end of the match against a tough and fighting rival, although with little power. Finally, in the 88’ the player from the Academy Pedro Martín scored the third and definitive goal, a goal that will remain for posterity at the Stadium’s golden book to writing that Atlético de Madrid won the opening match.
