Fernando Torres received a call-up from national team boss Vicente Del Bosque for Spain’s final two Group 5 matches. The Red Fury face Armenia in Yerevan on Saturday October 10, before their last qualifier away to Bosnia-Herzegovina in Zenica on October 14. With Spain guaranteed top spot, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Turkey are still fighting for second place and a spot in the play-offs. The side coached by Miroslav Blazevic are favourites to finish behind Spain, as they go into the final two games defending a four point advantage over third-placed Turkey.

Bosnia face Estonia and group winners Spain in their final two games, whereas Turkey play Belgium away, before meeting bottom of the group Armenia on October 14.

It would come as no surprise if Vicente Del Bosque were to give those players who have featured less in the qualifiers a run-out in Spain’s last two group games. The European champions, who have won all eight of their qualifiers, sealed their place at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with a comfortable 3-0 win over Estonia.

The match played in Merida was Torres’ 70th appearance for his country, and although the forward failed to score, he is level with both Alfredo Di Stefano and Julio Salinas in the Spain all-time scorer’s table with 23 goals for his country.

The Liverpool striker will join his fellow Spain team-mates after the Red’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
