Francisco de Quevedo School, located in Fuenlabrada (Madrid), has a new and glittering football pitch. This new Cruyff Court is located in the elementary school where Fernando Torres grew up, and becomes the first one in the region of Madrid. Fernando unveiled the pitch on Thursday and played with the school kids, who displayed a warm welcome to the legendary player.

The former player of Atlético de Madrid and the Spanish team; Pati Roura, director of the Cruyff Foundation; Xavier Bertolín, director of the Commercial and Educational Action Area of the Banking Foundation "la Caixa"; Javier Ayala, mayor of Fuenlabrada, and José Manuel González Guillorme, director of the CEIP Francisco de Quevedo, opened the Cruyff Court Fernando Torres, a project that focuses on sport as a way of inclusion and social cohesion in Fuenlabrada.

This initiative is the result of the alliance with ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation for the construction, maintenance and revitalization of a total of 13 Cruyff Courts, prioritizing disadvantaged areas to promote the social inclusion of children and young people especially vulnerable through the practice of sport.

The Cruyff Courts project was started in 2004 and currently has more than 260 Cruyff Courts around the world. The Cruyff Courts are small free-use football fields that aim to promote sports and values such as responsibility, integration, team play and personal improvement, as well as preventing sedentary lifestyle and childhood obesity.

This initiative also promotes two specific projects in these soccer fields: the Cruyff Courts 6vs6, championships for boys and girls from 10 to 12 years in which all the Cruyff Courts participate, and the Heroes of the Cruyff Courts, with the objective that young people from different neighbourhoods learn to organise their own tournament.
