Liverpool return to Premier League duty on Sunday against fellow Europa League last four side Fulham. The game between the two only remaining English clubs in European competition will kick-off at Anfield at 15:00 hours (BST).

The Reds, who head into the match on the back of an excellent 4-1 win against Benfica, will be hoping to take maximum points in their pursuit of a top four finish in the league. With just five games remaining, Liverpool are sixth, four points behind Man City, who lie fourth, and who have a game in hand on the Merseysiders.

Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool are fighting on two fronts, and despite the packed fixture list from here on to the end of the season, the Anfield club manager hopes his side achieve their two objectives. “Now we have two targets and we try to win every game. We will try to do it against Fulham on Sunday and be close to the top four. After that if we can win the final we will be really pleased.”

Fulham also arrive for the fixture on the back of a quarterfinal Europa League triumph. The Cottagers defeated German league champions Wolfsburg 1-0 on Thursday to win 3-1 on aggregate.

As for Fulham’s Premier League campaign, the Londoners lie twelfth in the league and are virtually assured of top-flight football next season. Fulham have 41 points, 14 clear of relegation, with ten wins at home, but with just one win on the road.

When the two teams met in the corresponding fixture back in October, Liverpool lost 3-1 at Craven Cottage. in a game in which they finished with nine men. Philipp Degen and Jamie Carragher were both sent-off by the referee as the Reds crashed to defeat. Fernando Torres equalised after Zamora had scored first for Fulham, but two second-half goals from Nevland and Dempsey clinched all three points for the Cottagers.

The Merseysides have an excellent home record against Fulham, having not lost to the Londoners in the last 28 meetings. This impressive record coupled with the Reds eight wins in their last eight league outings at Anfield should tilt the balance in Liverpool’s favour come Sunday afternoon.
