F. Torres puts an end to the bad run and scores Real Madrid (1-1)
...
The Madrilenian derbi which faced Atletico against Real Madrid at Calderon Stadium finished with a 1-1 tie, a result that doesn’t reflect red and white superiority during the entire match. Javier Aguirre’s players, leaded by a great Fernando Torres, set all their heart on doing it properly and they finished forgiving a Real Madrid that obtained a high out put of their shy bet. The red and white captain played a wonderful match and scored a goal which was the first goal to the white team since his debut at First division. At Real Madrid side was Higuaín in charge to equalize the score in an isolated action during the second half. The initial approach of Atletico entrust the wings to Jurado and Galletti, Fernando Torres and ‘Kun’ Agüero as strikers, a great idea that Real Madrid was on the brink of unhinge in the first fifteen minutes. Jurado broke constantly at the left wing while Torres and Agüero drove crazy the defense with their movements and Galletti made his work at the right wing. The occasions were to come: first Luccin warned with a foul kick that left very high, after that Galletti shot without luck a Jurado pass from the right side, but Fernando Torres was the one who inclined the balance towards the red and white team.
At 11’ was when the forward received a ball from Galletti at the front of the area, dribbled at the right and put the ball far from Casillas’ reach with a cross shot very close to the left post. With this goal Number ‘9’ put an end to the bad run which impeded him score at the matches against Real Madrid. 1-0 and Real Madrid wasn’t showing signs of life while their rival was growing as the owner and lord of the game. These were magic minutes for Atletico with a ratified second goal scored by Perea, but the goal wasn’t added to the scoreboard for a decision of the referee. At 19’ Torres shone again in a personal play at the right side, but his centre didn’t find shooter by few centimetres.
Atleti’s recital was extended during the entire first half, being superior to a Real Madrid that hardly got close with danger to the local area. We had to wait twenty minutes to see the first approach of Emerson and Higuaín, but Atletico didn’t lower his guard and Galletti was again very close to score the second goal after culminating a good play with Fernando Torres. At the last minutes of the first half Leo Franco blocked a dangerous shot by Cannavaro.
The second half brought novelties at Real Madrid team, with the entrance of the Italian Cassano instead of Reyes, not much active during the first 45 minutes. In spite of the change things didn’t improve for Real Madrid and Atletico was being still the owner of the match, but the panorama changed when Higuain made the tie at the first opportunity of the second half to the white team. Too generous reward for the work made by the white team during the match.
The tie was useful to the white team and the match went through a phase in which both teams seemed very equal. An illusion, because Atletico hold the reins of power and look for Casillas’ area again. Mista entrance gave strength at the red and white forward line, and in combination with Torres and Agüero occasions were coming. Mista took danger with a header that Casillas safed and then Seitaridis looked for a breakthrough with a shot gone by the left side.
Six minutes for the end and Real Madrid had ten players after Cannavaro stopped Fernando Torres with a hard foul that the referee punished with a yellow card, the second one for the Italian player that took him straight to the shower. With numerical superiority Atletico came back to bother Iker’s area, though the goalkeeper shined blocking two dangerous shots by Mista and Agüero. Without a doubt the Madrilenian goalkeeper was the Real Madrid saviour in a derbi that Atletico Madrid deserved to win.
