On Saturday afternoon the Liverpool FC family gathered at Anfield for a charitable cause. 59,655 spectators packed the stands to enjoy the Legends match so they could watch -for the first time- Fernando Torres back onto the pitch alongside former teammates such as Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio, Skrtel, Maxi Rodríguez and El Zhar, among others. They all played a contest in which the Liverpool Foundation and the charitable causes it promotes were the big winners.

The visitors were two goals to the good at the break having bookended the first half with goals in minutes two and 43 respectively, Derk Boerrigter and Kiki Musampa each netting well from close range.

Gregory Vignal’s clinical finish in front of the Kop halved the Reds’ deficit early in the second period and Djibril Cisse levelled for the home team with a header a quarter of an hour from the end.

And there was still time for Liverpool to give a sold-out crowd the finale they craved, with Nabil El Zhar putting them in front before Fernando Torres wrapped up the scoring.

Torres worked hard to relive how it feels to score at Anfield, and it came late on at the Kop end. Gonzalez delivered across the area for the Spaniard, who tapped the ball over the line on the stretch to sign off another special charity event at Anfield, before being replaced under a resounding ovation from the stands. A day to remember.
