It wasn't to be. Atlético fought to secure points at Valdebebas right up to the final action of the Madrid reserves derby, twice coming from behind against the home side. Five goals were scored at the Di Stéfano, with the home team taking an early lead through Carvajal (9'). After a hard-fought first half, Yaakobishvili surprised everyone with a shot from outside the box, leveling the score before the break. The evenly matched contest continued after the restart until the hour mark, when Diego Aguado converted a penalty (61'). The equalizer came from a penalty at the other end, as Koke Mota scored on the rebound after Mestre had saved the initial spot-kick (67'). Yáñez netted the decisive 3-2 goal shortly after, in the 75th minute, although the Red-and-white side created clear chances to equalize right up to the match's final play in the 111th minute.

Visitor’s coach Fernando Torres described the clash as "this match left room for improvement in many areas. Obviously, when you don't win, you're always left with the feeling that you could do better—that the team could do better. There were other very good spells where the team dominated and had chances to take the lead, or even to equalize at last-gasp. But we have to keep moving forward; it’s not enough. These are defeats that will certainly help us improve."

“Keep on believing in our vision, keep on to build the team, and keep on to understand that every player is important. Now comes a long week of work that will be a good thing for us,” added Torres, looking ahead to the next matchday, when Real Zaragoza will visit Alcalá de Henares (Sunday the 11th, 21:00 CET).
