Fernando Torres, assistant coach for Ricardo Ortega’s team, spoke to Red-and-white club official media after the game: “We were aware of the danger from set-pieces, which is how our opponents have created goal chances”, he stated.

The Madrilenian highlighted the hard effort displayed by Atlético youth squad: “One more time it has been a huge effort by our guys in this competition, a step forward to our target. We are on last-16 now, so it is time to enjoy, but from tomorrow we have to focus on next Sunday’s league fixture. We keep on going”.

“I’m very happy because these guys have a great future ahead, they show good what Atletico is about. Today we know how to overcome tough moments. We have had the character to take on those difficult moments, each time the game progressed we felt more comfortable”, he said.

Finally, Fernando called Red-and-white faithful to show their support to the U19’s in the next round of the European club competition, if it’s played on their own soil. “They are showing awesome maturity and getting closer to their dream, which is to be first-team players one day. I would like that, in some way, if we could play in our pitch the next round, they would have more visibility. That our fans come, see them and get excited about the future of Atlético de Madrid, which is already here”.

The Barcelona-born defender David Navarro also shared his feeling after the game: “It has been an incredible game, the team had been working very well and we showed that during the 90 minutes. We have been true Atleti spirit. On penalty shoot-out, we trusted in Iturbe and we are so happy to be in the last 16 round”, he said.
