The Liverpool number ‘9’s two goals in the Merseyside derby captured the headlines in Britain and back in the forward’s native Spain. The on-line press, both sporting and more news and current affairs related, all coincided, as they praised Fernando Torres on his match-winning performance at Goodison Park.

Torres was the centre of all the headlines in Spain following his second and third goals of the new campaign. The webiste for the Spanish newspaper ‘ABC’ crowned the striker; “Torres, the King of Liverpool”. ‘El País’ and ‘El Mundo’ both described the forward’s contribution as crucial as his two goals condemned Everton to their third Premier League home defeat of the season.

The websites belonging to the press dedicated to exclusively to sport, also praised Torres for his two goals scored at Goodison Park. ‘AS’ described Torres and the “High Executioner” on derby day in Merseyside; whilst the ‘Mundo Deportivo’ headlines with; “Too much Torres for Everton”.

Back in Britain, the Independent, the Guardian and BBC Sport all coincided as they praised the two goal striker’s performance in the Merseyside derby.

The Independent looked back at some words from Everton manager David Moyes before the weekend fixture. When asked about the clash versus Liverpool, and which player he most feared, the Everton boss failed to mention Fernando Torres. The Independent assured that Moyes would not forget to name the Spanish striker if asked the same question come derby day.

The Guardian headlined their internet match report with, “Torres kills-off Everton”. The article highlighted the important role the Spaniard has in the Liverpool team, and that he was also unlucky not have taken home the match-ball, having a third goal disallowed for a somewhat innocuous foul by Kuyt on Lescott.
