Fernando Torres was grateful to colleagues as the striker was listed alongside four other players for the FIFA World Player award. The Spaniard reflected on the nomination as he answered questions from fans in F9T Talk Back.

“I want to thank my team-mates from club and country once again for all their help. Without their support and contribution it would have been impossible to have been considered for these individual prizes. I feel proud to have received recognition from national team managers and team captains from the world of the football. It’s a luxury just to have been included in this group of players. I am happy, and this serves for me to continue working hard each and every day so that I continue to receive praise.”

Fernando Torres and Liverpool’s goalscorer from the weekend’s clash at home to Hull have got on like a house on fire since the Spaniard landed on Merseyside. “From the first day we clicked out on the pitch. We found each other with ease. It is easy to play in the same team as Gerrard because he is a great player and makes everything easy for you out there. I have said this before, he is the best player I have played alongside. He is unbelievable and his consistency is worthy of admiration.”

The striker, who is working hard to reach full fitness following his hamstring injury, hopes to help his club to Premier League glory. “My confidence is still the same. The recovery process is going as planned and we are not going to rush things. The right moment to return and help the team is when I am fully fit. We are top of the Premier League and well-placed in the fight for the title. I hope that when I return, I will be able to help my team-mates to lift the trophy.”
