According to the ‘WIP’ list, Fernando Torres is one of the top four popular Spanish people on the internet. The striker lies only behind tennis star Rafa Nadal, the Spanish President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and actress Penelope Cruz. The striker who collected almost 6,000,000 references in October has notched-up 4,548,181 searches and hits so far in December. His performances for club and country have seen an amazing 444% increase over the last year. The impressive figure has also coincided with a boom in visits to the striker’s official website.

Fernando9torres.com, which was launched in 2004, became the centre-stage for all the latest news, views and action from and about the Spaniard. The website which offers an up to date service on the young striker in Spanish and English, hit an unbelievable 2,288,116 downloads on June 30.

The 2008 European Championships were the perfect end to the 2007/2008 season for the striker who struck his country’s only goal in the final versus Germany to help Spain to the title. Fernando Torres’ goal in the Euro 2008 Vienna final not only broke all records on the Madrid-born forward’s official website, but the strike was the most watched video on ‘Youtube’ on June 30 with almost 80,000 enjoying Spain’s European Championship winner.
