Atlético de Madrid U19 side kicked off the Youth League campaign with an important and hard-fought win over Porto as Red-and-whites get off to a good start in a competition where they reached the Final Four last season. Adrián Niño scored the goal in the 71st minute.

After the game Fernando Torres made his analysis of the match, as well as he showed his satisfaction with the win obtained: “I am very happy, with the result especially. We knew of the rival's potential, which was much higher in the first half, where it cost us a lot to have control of the ball. We knew that if we could not have the possession we would have to defend more and it's something we did not want”.

“In the second half we have adjusted better, pressing further forward and having longer possessions that have allowed us to find our most dangerous players. In the end, on one of our chances we got the advantage, and from then on we could have secured the win but their goalkeeper has performed very well”, added the coach of the U19s, a team that also made his debut in domestic Liga División de Honor with a win away in Valladolid (1-2).

Torres highlighted the quality of “a very competitive rival, as Porto always use to be in the group phase. He's going to get a lot of points at the end of this qualifying round, so we are very happy for the three points gained”.

Regarding the evolution of a deeply renewed squad, Fernando highlighted that “it has been a good start, after a tough, complicated pre-season, trying to explain to the boys what this new season requires from us. I feel very happy with the evolution since the first day, they have made the job, one hundred percent, so we are very happy and proud of how they have managed this situation. They all are ready."
