Fernando’s hard work and dedication finally paid off as the striker joined the Spain squad for a training session under the orders of Vicente Del Bosque. The forward trained for 45 minutes during Thursday morning’s session at Las Rozas. Since having surgery on his right knee on April 18 in Barcleona, the striker has recovered from injury in Liverpool and Vigo, where Torres spent a fortnight.

The Kid worked alongside his 22 teammates in the morning session which started at 9:30 hours (BST). Torres came into contact with the ball, taking part in a 30 minute long training match. Fernando lined-up in the same team as Villa, Mata, Javi Martínez, Iniesta, Silva, Albiol, Puyol, Arbeloa and Marchena. The Spain number ‘9’ left the training session after the match, and with just under 25 minutes remaining of Thursday’s session.

Vicente Del Bosque and the Spain squad will now travel to Austria for the second part of their World Cup preparations. Their first test will be against Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening, kick-off at 17:00 hours (BST).

Yesterday Torres spoke in his side’s press conference where he confirmed to everyone present his positive sensations. “I’m very happy. I had surgery about five weeks ago and the estimated time of recovery is six weeks. If all goes well, then everything will turn out as planned, I will able to up the training. We have to remain cautious but at the same we have to remain optimistic. After suffering an injury a player needs time to get fully match fit, and not a day has gone by when I haven’t trained. I hope to be fresh and 100% fit before the tournament kicks-off”.
