The Liverpool captain, who recently recovered from a hamstring tear, is looking forward to being reunited with the Spanish striker as the Red’s prepare for their Champions League clash with Real Madrid next Tuesday. Steve Gerrard hopes that injury problems, which have affected himself and Torres over the course of the season, are now in the past, and that the two players can link-up once again on a football pitch.

“It's been frustrating because I certainly love playing with him and from reading some of the things he's said, he loves playing with me. Ideally we want to end the season playing together and performing for the team. I spoke to him a couple of days ago and he seems very optimistic so fingers crossed he can pull through for Tuesday because you know how much I like playing against Everton, and I'm sure it’s the same for him playing against Madrid.”

The return of the two players for the return-leg will be a timely boost for Rafa Benitez’ side. The Anfield club go into the mid-week clash defending the 1-0 lead they brought back from Madrid courtesy of a Benayoun goal.
