The Liverpool number ‘9’ attended the Members of the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association (LDSA) annual dinner ahead of last Saturday’s derby day win over Everton; in which he scored both of the Reds’ goals. The Anfield striker was presented with the LDSA’s Player of the Season Award by disability liaison officer Colin McCall and LDSA chairwoman Jeanette Dodds.

The Spaniard, who spent well over an hour signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans, spoke to the official club website and TV. “I am very proud to be here and receive this award. It is very important for me to play well because all the supporters are the most important thing for me. It’s good to spend some time with the LDSA and I hope to keep playing well for all the fans in the next year – that is my target at the moment.”

The club’s disability liaison officer Colin McCall paid tribute to the Liverpool striker the club’s assistance to the LDSA. “Fernando has been absolutely fantastic with all of our disabled supporters. He said that he wanted to sign an autograph for everyone in the room and we’ve had well over an hour with him signing autographs – he’s been great. It’s great to see the smiles on people’s faces and the way the room lit up when Fernando walked in was just unbelievable. It’s a pleasure and an honour to be in this position.”
