Liverpool take on West Ham, kick-off at 17:30 hours (BST) on Saturday May 9, in their penultimate away fixture of the campaign. Fernando Torres is back in contention for the Reds trip to Upton Park after missing last weekend’s home win over Newcastle United.

Should the Spaniard grab his 14th league goal of the season against the Hammers on Saturday -in what will be his 82nd appearance for the Anfield club- he would reach the 50 goal milestone for Liverpool FC. Torres’ goal per game ratio for the Merseysiders is superior to his goalscoring record at Atletico- as the forward required 129 games, and four seasons, to reach the landmark.

West Ham, who currently lie seventh in the table on 48 points, are having an impressive season, but their slim hopes of sixth place and a UEFA cup spot hang by a thread. Everton, who occupy the final European qualification berth, are 8 points ahead of the Londoners with just three games to play; although the two are meet at Goodison Park on Saturday May 16.

The previous meeting between the two sides at Anfield back in December ended in a disappointing scoreless draw. It was a frustrating evening in front of goal for a Liverpool side who were missing Fernando Torres after the striker picked-up an injury versus Olympique Marseille. The draw however was enough to move the Reds one point clear at the top of the Premier League.

Last season’s clash in East London ended 1-0 to the home side. Liverpool created several good chances to take all three points but a Noble penalty in the final minute proved enough to undo the Reds.

Elsewhere, leaders Manchester United have a tricky derby against local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, kick-off at 13:30 hours (BST); whilst third-placed Chelsea make the short trip across London to face fourth-placed Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, kick-off at 16:00 hours (BST).

Following the weekend’s fixtures, Liverpool will have one eye on Manchester United again on Wednesday May 13, as Alex Ferguson’s side face Wigan Athletic at the JJB Stadium. The Premier League clash, which is their game in hand, kicks-off at 20:00 hours (BST).
