Fernando Torres received a call-up from Vicente Del Bosque for the international friendly against Macedonia in Skopje on August 12 at 20:30 hours (BST). The European champions will take on their opponents at the renovated National arena Philip II of Macedon as part of the country's 100 years anniversary of football. Spain’s rivals face a tough battle to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Macedonia currently lie third in their group behind leaders Holland and second-placed Scotland.

The friendly meeting in Skopje will serve as a warm-up ahead of Spain’s two Group 5 games against Belgium on September 5 and against Estonia on September 9. The Red Fury currently lead their group with maximum points, with six wins in six. Their last qualifying victory came against Turkey, as goals from Xabi Alonso from the spot- after Ibrahim Uzulmez had handled a Fernando Torres header- and a late strike from Riera gave Del Bosque’s side all three points.
