Fernando Torres faces the Tigers at the KC Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 15:00 hours (BST), just one goal away from registering his 50th for Liverpool in all competitions. Should the Spaniard score versus Hull City he would become the joint 4th quickest to do so in the history of the Anfield Club.

The forward would join George Allan and Sam Raybould, who both achieved the feat in 81 games more than 100 years ago. The only three players to achieve the 50 goal milestone in fewer appearances are Albert Stubbins (77 games), Jack Parkinson (78 games) and Roger Hunt (79 games).

With just five games remaining the Liverpool striker is in the race for the Premier League golden boot. Torres, who has hit four goals in his last two games, is just two strikes behind current leaders Cristiano Ronaldo (who has six games left to play) and Chelsea’s Nicolas Anelka.

Liverpool’s Premier League opponents had a sensational start to their first ever top-flight campaign. At one stage the Tigers even led the competition, but a poor run of results have the team sitting just three points above relegation.

Hull City currently have the worst home record in the Premier League, having collected only 14 points so far this campaign. The Tigers, who have won just three times at Kingston Communications Stadium in the league, have not won in front of their home fans in the last eight games.

Liverpool have never lost to Hull in a competitive match. The Anfield club have won 10 and drawn 3 of the 13 games between the two sides. The Red’s last visit to Hull was a 5-1 victory in the League Cup in a match that took place at their old ground, Boothferry Park.

The two teams have not met in a competitive league game in Hull since January 1960 when a strike from Jimmy Melia gave the Merseysiders a 1-0 win.

The return fixture at Anfield ended in a 2-2 draw. A Liverpool side missing Fernando Torres through injury found themselves two goals down mid-way through the first-half. The Tigers took a shock lead as McShane headed a Marlon King cross past. An own goal from Jamie Carragher doubled Hull’s advantage, but the Reds were level by the break with two goals from Gerrard.

Elsewhere leaders Man U face Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday (kick-off at 17:30 hours, BST) and third-placed Chelsea take on West Ham United at Upton Park (kick-off at 15:00 hours, BST).
