22:42 hours in Spain (local time). 8,510,000 people tune into Spanish television station TVE to watch Spain versus Turkey at the Santiago Bernabeu. A Fernando Torres curled shot from just outside the area is brilliantly saved by Volkan Demirel. The minute is the most-watched of the Group 5 qualifier clash played-out on Saturday.

An average of 6,891,000 supporters, 48.1% of the audience, enjoyed Spain’s win over Turkey as the home side edged closer to the 2010 World Cup. The audience peaked just before half-time as the Spain forward came close to breaking the deadlock.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the second-half. Fernando Torres was fouled. Xabi Alonso took the free-kick. Ramos headed the ball back across goal. And Pique stabbed it over the line. Three points and a six point lead at the top of Group 5. Next stop for Spain and TVE is the Ali Sami Yen stadium on Wednesday, kick-off at 19:00 hours (BST).
