The 'Niño' was happy with his first start since sustaining a knee injury for Liverpool against Benfica back in April. Against Honduras on Monday the forward played for 70 minutes creating plenty of danger in the Spain attack. The number '9' had good sensations during the Group H victory, and following the match Fernando Torres confirmed that: “I'm ready to play the full 90 minutes when the boss sees fit”. Despite the 2-0 win over Honduras, the forward warned that Spain "cannot afford to slip-up" if they want to make the second round.

The striker was happy with Spain's play, although they could well have won by a greater margin. “Once again we created plenty of chances, today (Monday night) we scored, but we missed a lot of chances. We still need to get the feel of the ball."

“The team has always performed well when Villa and I have played up-front together, but at the end of the day it's the result that counts. Jesus Navas got to the by-line well and we spent most of the game camped in their half. And scoring in the first-half helped the side a lot. Our gameplan is clear."

Fernando had kind words for the Spanish press who have been backing the side throughout the tournament: “We are very happy with the press back home. They have shown their support to the team since day one. The rest of the world are waiting for us to make a mistake, they doubt our style of play, but I don't feel that they have any reason to do so."
