The Chelsea and Spain number ‘9’ joined up with fellow internationals at the City of Football in Las Rozas on Tuesday. Before heading to Las Rozas, the striker spent the morning in his native Fuenlabrada where he awarded the town’s Gold Medal. Following the ceremony, Fernando Torres visited a sports complex which is currently under construction in Fuenlabrada and which will carry his name.

The 22 players named in Vicente Del Bosque’s squad have two European Championship qualifiers to prepare for in the space of nine days. Spain’s first outing will be against the Czech Republic this Friday in Granada, kick-off at 22:00 hours (local time). The match at the Nuevo Carmenes Stadium will be followed by a qualifier in Kaunas against Lithuania on Wednesday week.

Preparations for Friday’s Euro 2012 clash will start at around 19:00 hours. The evening session will be the first of three work-outs before the Spain squad head south to Granada on Thursday.

The defending European Champions currently top their group with maximum points after three games. In second place are the Czech Republic on six points, three behind leaders Spain.
