A cartilage injury will keep Torres sidelined for an estimated six weeks

14-01-2010

Tests on Thursday confirmed that a knee injury will keep Fernando Torres out of action for a period of six weeks. The Spaniard was forced off on 29 minutes of Wednesday night’s cup loss in the FA Cup third round replay. A Club spokesman said: “Fernando Torres underwent a scan earlier today after coming off in the FA Cup tie against Reading… he has torn a cartilage in his right knee. The injury will require surgery and he is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.”

Liverpool suffered more bad news as tests on Steve Gerrard, who was substituted at half-time against Reading, revealed that the midfielder has a hamstring strain and will be out for a fortnight. Yossi Benayoun also joins Fernando Torres and Gerrard on the sidelines after the Israeli fractured a rib in the thrird round FA Cup defeat. Benayoun will be unavailable for between three and four weeks.
