Liverpool will be looking to build on last week’s good result when local rivals Everton make the short trip across Stanley Park for Saturday’s 211th Merseyside derby, kick-off at 12:45 hours (GMT). Following their recent win over Bolton, the Reds go into the match just one point off fourth place. The Anfield club, who lie fifth, are nine points ahead of Everton who are ninth. - League Table -

In Liverpool’s last outing Dirk Kuyt handed the Red-half of Merseyside a half-time lead at home to Bolton Wanderers scoring from close range on 37 minutes, before Bolton player Kevin Davies scored an own goal with 20 minutes left on the clock.

For Saturday's clash Rafa Benitez will still be without Fernando Torres, who is recovering from his knee operation. The striker is fighting back to full fitness at the Red’s Melwood training facilities as he aims to return to help his club in their quest for a top four finish and Europa League glory.

Last weekend saw Everton extend their unbeaten league run to nine games. David Moyes’ side clinched all three points with a 1-0 win at Wigan, courtesy of a header from Tim Cahill six minutes from time.

During this impressive run the Blues have suffered just one defeat. The loss came in the FA Cup fourth round at home to Birmingham. Steve Bruce’s men knocked Everton out winning 2-1 at Goodison Park.

In the corresponding fixture held in November last year Liverpool collected maximum points. A deflected shot from Javier Mascherano and a late strike from Dirk Kuyt made sure the Reds took the honours in the derby meeting. That defeat was Everton’s last loss in the Premier League.

Come Saturday, the Reds will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the the Barclays Premier League to seven matches in their pursuit for a Champions League berth.
