Carlo Ancelotti was obviously pleased with Fernando Torres' maiden Chelsea goal and now aims to play him alongside Didier Drogba in the next game. Torres netted his first goal to the delight of Stamford Bridge's faithful, and it was well-worked as the Spaniard battled to keep possession inside the West Ham area.

The goal arrived after Frank Lampard's opener and before Florent Malouda's stoppage-time strike, which came courtesy of a Torres assist.

“It was fantastic moment and will help him move on quickly,” said Ancelotti, talking of Torres' goal.

“He needed to score to move from this moment. For him, the next game will be better. It was good, good movement, good pass and a fantastic goal”.

“I never lost the confidence in his abilities, his skills, because he is a fantastic striker. I said we had to take time because it was a new club for him; he needed to get to know his team mates. Now he will show his quality.”

After torrential rain poured down on the sodden pitch, it looked as though the water would prevent Torres scoring as the ball slowed up in a puddle. But the Spaniard did well to keep possession before launching it into the net with his left foot.

“He was unlucky there [with the water] but he did fantastically to move so quickly, come back and score well,” added the Chelsea manager. Now he plans to start Torres alongside Drogba when we host Tottenham Hotspur next weekend: “Considering the performance of Didier today, and considering Fernando scored, we have to try and play both together now. We have one week to train and we will take a decision before the next game. I don't want to guarantee this but we will try”.

“They don't have a problem playing together. Didier is moving very well, not just in the box but also outside. He is doing fantastic assists for his team mates and for this reason I don't think they will have a problem playing together.”
