Atlético one step from Europa League glory as Stade Lyon host final contest vs O. Marseille

16-05-2018

From Madrid to Lyon. The Red-and-white exodus make-up the roads of Europe taking more than 10.500 Atlético supporters to the Stade of Lyon Stadium, the place of the Europa League final game between Olympique Marseille and Atlético de Madrid. Fernando Torres will be there tonight -Ko 19:45 GMT- fighting for a first European Title with boyhood club in his last season as member of the Red-and-whites squad. He also is on the edge of winning a second Europa League crown after winning the 2013 edition with Chelsea FC, netting the opener to Benfica on the final played in Amsterdam.

Fernando Torres has good memories from games versus Olympique Marseille as he scored a superb strike to the French side back on 2007. The Spanish striker put in another solid performance in scoring the Red’s second of the night as he knocked the ball past Julien Rodriguez before gliding past the Marseille defence and finishing past Steve Mandanda. A great individual goal from the Spanish forward that for sure will try to give his best to be on the scoresheet tonight and help Atlético to get another European Title.

Red-and-whites are looking to win its third Europa League, after previous success in 2010 and 2012. Meanwhile, OM wish to win their first-ever Europa League and thus seal qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

The Stade de Lyon, also known as Groupama Stadium, covers 50 hectares and is located in Decines-Charpieu, roughly 10 km from the centre of Lyon and can seat 59,186 fans. It'll be ready to host the beautiful final between Madrilenians and Olympique de Marseille.

The French opponent in the final is one of the most successful teams in French football. OM are the only team from France to win the UEFA Champions League and they've also won ten league titles, ten French cups and three league cups.
Olympique de Marseille's coach is Rudi García and he's been in charge of the team since October 2016. He's a charismatic manager and our boss Diego Pablo Simeone has praised him on numerous occasions.

This will be the third time Atlético face OM and so far, they have never lost (one win and one draw). The Spanish team will do everything possible so that stat remains true after the final in Lyon.
