Atlético to overcome one goal deficit at Vicente Calderón in Kings Cup second leg (1-0)

21-01-2015

The League match was a reference the disciples of Simeone had in mind and they knew that it couldn’t happen again. The start of the Barcelona was dazzling but with a good red and white response. Neymar had the first opportunity four minutes in, but Oblak made a great intervention by deflecting it to the corner with a hand.

Messi shot a high ball on the 12th minute, just before Atlético got rid of the Catalonian pressure and showed its weapons. Arda tested Ter Stegen with a shot from the front but the big chance was for was Griezmann, from a cross by Siqueira, but the French went high. Before the end, Luis Suárez had a great opportunity but his shot went out.

In the second half, Atlético de Madrid disconnected Barcelona, took a step forward to press higher up and get a closer look at Ter Stegen, which made things difficult to Luis Enrique’s men. Now, we only had to be able to link with the forwards to make some damage to Barcelona. But no clear chances for our players came by. Barcelona had their chance with a penalty kick from Messi in the final stretch of the game that Oblak saved, but the Argentinian scored the goal in the clearance. The Vicente Calderón will decide the pass to quarter-finals.
