Atlético de Madrid climb up on top of Liga Santader after their two-goal win in Valencia. In a hard-fought contest and after a first half driving the game Griezmann broke the deadlock on 63’ after a shot by Fernando Torres deflected by Diego Alves. The local goalkeeper was the hero saving two penalties to Griezmann and Gabo -one on each half-. The win push Atlético up on top of the table waiting for the fixtures of Real Madrid and Barcelona to be played this evening. -Liga Santander Table-

Atlético came out onto the grass of Mestalla with very clear ideas and eager to win three points to continue with the streak and, in addition, honour the 50th anniversary of the Vicente Calderón. And the truth is that the match was very serious, controlled at all times but was missing the goal in a first half in which Saúl warned first, then it was Griezmann, both times saved by Alves, and the clearest was the penalty from Nani on Correa that Griezmann kicked and Valencia’s keeper sent to the corner.

The second half was just like the first one, with red and white control that increased as time went by. While Filipe Luis tested Alves once again, we reached a key minute in the match. Torres entered and in less than a minute on the field, he started the play of the goal with a shot that was cleared by Alves and that Griezmann finished into the net. Atlético could have closed the match with a second penalty kick from Gabi that was saved by Alves. The one who did close it was Gameiro with a great goal in the last minute of the added time. Happy birthday Vicente Calderón stadium!
