Atletico call on another Vicente Calderon comeback with a place in last eight at stake (1-0)

25-02-2015

Atlético de Madrid lost in Leverkusen by the minimum to a goal by Calhanoglu. In three weeks Red-and-whites will have to come back in the Vicente Calderón. Fernando Torres made his debut on the competition with Atlético de Madrid player in the second half (min 68) replacing Arda Turan. Last apeearance of the striker in Champions League was on 13/4 season semifinal against Atletico, scoring the Blues' single goal in 1-3 defeat at The Bridge.

The match was balanced in the first half, with three chances for each team. The most dangerous ones, by Spahic on 25 minutes, who crashed his shot into the right crosspiece of the goal, and the last two for our own, with a clearance of Leno when Griezmann was coming in to shoot on goal in the small box and a great save of the goalkeeper of a bicycle kick from Tiago in the extension.

The second half began just as first, but a play after 15 minutes was crucial. Calhanoglu received from Bellarabi to beat Moya with a high ball and put the Germans ahead. The game entered a complicated phase for our team. Fernando Torres, who had substituted Arda Turan, almost tied but Leno saved Bayer with his intervention. Just like Moyá did to a shot from Drmic. However, the sending off of Tiago for double yellow cards made it harder. Even so, the team tried until the last minute of the match. The Vicente Calderón will have the last word on Tuesday, the 17th of March.
