Atletico fails against Real Sociedad at Calderon (1-1)

26-11-2006
Atletico fails against Real Sociedad at Calderon (1-1)Atletico of Madrid broke the good run of two consecutives victories in League with a tie against Real Sociedad (1-1). The match became an uphill struggle for Aguirre’s players, at 23’, with a San Sebastian team’s goal and we had to wait till 77’ to see a stroke of luck that allowed the red and white team to obtain a point in front of his supporters.

The Mexican coach bet from the beginning for the double strike Torres-Agüero, the couple that took Atletico to add six of six points in the last matches, while the wings were for Galletti and Antonio Lopez. From the first minute the red and white team assume the weight of the match and soon came the first occasions. At 8’ Fernando Torres played the first approach to Bravo’s area with an action at the right wing and a shot that left close to the right post.

In spite of the red and white control was the team of Real Sociedad the one that scored the first goal at 23’, when Gari hit a precise centre by Jesuli and beat Leo Franco. Was a hard bump for the locals that didn’t show clear ideas in order to reach Bravo’s area. Although Pernia and Galletti tried it with a shot and a header, the tie wasn’t coming. The time was running and Atletico wasn’t comfortable on the field against Real Sociedad that knew how to move and how to maintain the advantage. Already fulfilled the first 45 minutes Antonio Lopez played the clearest action for Atletico in a precise foul kick that Bravo intercepted with a gold hand.

At the beginning of the second half was Pernia the author of a shot that had the same luck than Antonio Lopez’s shot: a saving hand and a ball to the post. Luccin also tried it in a kick foul, though this one left close to the right post. Watching all this, Aguirre moved the bench and put more strength to the forward line of the red and white team with the entered of Mista and Jurado instead of Pernia and Maniche.

In spite of the high offensive baggage, Atletico didn’t come with clarity to the rival area and time was running in favour of Real Sociedad that was rejected already to any offensive action to armour-plate his goal. Atletico’s options seem to depend on an specific action, and it was like that: luck smiled the red and white team when a centre to the area by Galletti without danger hit Ansotegui and slip inside the rival’s goal, in front of the perplex sight of Bravo, this time, he couldn’t do anything to prevent the self-goal.

With 13 minutes to go for the end of the match hurry became the owner of every action that Atletico tried in order to achieve the victory, though none of them worried the visitors, except a header made by Perea that Bravo blocked. Finally the referee pointed out the way to the locker rooms and sentenced the tie that allows the red and white team to add seven of nine possible points in the last three matches.
