17-06-2007
Atletico Madrid wins at Pamplona but stays out of Europe (1-2)Atletico Madrid risked the UEFA just in a card in the last season and it ended finishing his bet. The red and white team did its duty at Pamplona after winning to Osasuna (1-2), but didn’t turn out good because the red and white team depended on his rival’s matches, Villarreal and Zaragoza. The victory was the only option to achieve the UEFA aim and the scene wasn’t favourable to achieve it, after thirteen years without winning at Pamplona, but Javier Aguirre’s men didn’t dissapoint and they added the three points.

The triumph, though necessary, wasn’t enough to achieve Europe and the luck didn’t accompany the results: Zaragoza tied at Huelva and Villarreal won against Sevilla, so Atletico shoul play Intertoto Cup if it want to accede to Europe at the next Season.

Things didn’t turn out good to Javier Aguirre’s team. The first warned was maded by Milosevic, who got the most of a ball at the back of the defense to be alone against Leo Franco and sent a shot which crashed into the post. Ten minutes after the scene was repited with the same protagonist, though in this occasion Leo Franco blocked the shot of the red forward. At the visitant side, Atletico didn’t find comfortable against Navarros pressure and they had to wait until the 13’ to sent a shot between the three post from a Petrov’s kick foul. Fernando Torres also tried it when he finished a shot from the right side of the frontal with a powerful shot which the goalkeeper blocked.

Osasuna made his play suffocating in the middle and became into an impossible mission getting with danger to Elia’s area. At the contrary, the red team had on his hand the control of the play and they came with ease to Leo Franco’s area. The attack action of the red and white team was base on playing direct football looking for the speed of his forwards in fast counterattacks. At the half hour of the play ‘Kun’ Agüero also looked for a goal with a far right footed shot that lefted very near of the left post.

In spite of the local control Atletico Madrid hit first at 38’. Agüero ge tinto the area from the right and, after cutting to a defense, he sent a pass to the contrary post with a left footed shot where Maxi was waiting to score with a finish shot of maximun difficulty. The Argentinian scored a goal of great importance in the right moment, at the edge of the break, and put the match facing to the red and white interest what we could see on the pitch.

The begin of the second half became in a festival of goals with two goals in hardly ten minutes. Firstly came the Osasuna tie when Juanfran entered at the right side, who overcome to Antonio Lopez and executed the dead pass to the heart of the area where Milosevic, just had to push the ball to the end of the net. It didn’t even pass five minutes from the tie and Atletico was advantage again with a goal in the own Monreal goal.

The Osasuna team didn’t surrunder and Molisevic was looking Leo Franco’s area. The forward won once again to the defense back and tried out the reflects of the red and white goalkeeper with a shot very near of the post. The pace of the match was lower after the injury of Elia, who was subtituded for Ricardo, but Osasuna continue its siege to his rival goal with three consecutives danger actions that Leo Franco blocked with solvency against Milosevic persistence.

The last clear occasion to Atletico was protagonized by Fernando Torres after going in solitary towards Ricardo’s goal though the goalkeeper won and he finished off the ball from the feet of number ‘9’. From that moment to the end of the match all danger was maded by Navarra team: a header of Juanfran to Leo Franco’s, a ball that Maniche took out and a poison shot from Jokin which Leo Franco blocked minutes before the referee decreed the end of the match and, consequently, the way of Atletico Madrid and F. Torres in the season 06/07.
