Already finished the season 06-07 it’s time to make numbers and the balance give positive numbers at individual level to Fernando Torres. During the Liga Championship, the captain has been a basic part at Javier Aguirre’s game plan, being starter in all the matches he has played, a total of 36, while he only has missed two matches: one been injured (Espanyol) and another one punished (Athletic). Of this 36 matches, the Number ‘9’ has played the 90 minutes at 29, while he has been replaced in just 7 adding a total of 3012 minutes played. With the captain at the starter team, Atletico has achieved 16 victories and 9 ties against 11 defeats.

In these 36 matches, Fernando has achieved to score 14 goals, one more than last campaign and enough to revalidate for fifth consecutive time the title of top goal scorer of the team. So, the forward completes a lustrum being the ‘top goal scorer’ of the team and equalize the record achieved by Ruben Cano at the period of 1976-1981. About the historic goal scorer table of the club, the 14 goals are useful to add 75 and replaces Adelardo at the ninth place, just two goals behind Manolo. The bad part of F. Torres’ season was focus shooting at the penalty point, failing 4 maximum punishments, though none of the mistakes meant a lost of points for his team. The Madrilenian also has played an important role as assistant, signing four passes of goal.

Campaign after campaign F. Torres is one of the players more punished by the defensive harshness. At the 06/07 season they made him 124 fouls, 16 of them have ended in a card for the author, 3 in expulsion and 3 in penalties. In the other side, at his account figure 68 fouls made, five yellow cards and a red one. Once finalized the National League Championship, Fernando Torres will be on holidays until July 9th, a date in which the red and white squad is called to start the pre season 06-07 and prepare the commitment of Intertoto Cup.
