A brace from the Liverpool number ‘9’ versus Everton brought all three points from across Stanley Park back to Anfield. Following the derby day victory, the striker confirmed that he hopes that the goals, which were Torres’ first for the Reds in seven games, will be the start of more to come. “Not scoring for six games is too long for a striker. It hasn't been affecting my confidence because I knew that if I kept working hard the goals would arrive.”

“Now I want to keep going and score again in the Champions League next week. I want to improve on my 33 goals from last season. It was an important three points today. We know how important this game is for the fans and the players because we want to stay towards the top of the table. We know if we're in the top three or four in January and also in the next round of the Champions League then we can have a fantastic season.”

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was also delighted with Fernando Torres’ contribution in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Goodison Park. “Clearly we have players who can change games like Fernando with his goals and it gives the team confidence and it makes it easier for us to play well and keep the ball. Torres is always a threat for defenders.”
