Liverpool, who are unbeaten at home, will be aiming to build on their impressive victory at Old Trafford when they welcome Villa to Anfield on Sunday, kick-off at 16:00 hours (GMT). The clash will be a special one for the Spaniard as Torres will be making his 50th Premier League appearance for Liverpool since signing from Atletico Madrid. As fate would have it, the striker will be facing the same team against which he made his Premier League debut for Liverpool on August 11, 2007. Since featuring in the 2-1 win over Villa, the forward has hit an impressive 33 league goals in 49 games.

Martin O’Neill’s side arrive for the game on Merseyside on the back of an unexpected home defeat to Tottenham. Spurs hit goals right at the start of each half to send the Lions to only their second defeat at Villa Park.

The Reds cruised past Manchester United last weekend 4-1 to reduce the deficit at the top of the Premier League to just four points. Torres led Liverpool’s fight-back hitting the equaliser before helping his team earn a first-half penalty- from which the Anfield club took the lead.

The meeting between Aston Villa and Liverpool earlier in the season ended in a scoreless draw. The Spanish striker was substituted on the half hour mark of the stalemate at Villa Park after Fernando Torres pulled-up after chasing a long ball.

The Lions currently lie fifth in Premier League behind fourth-placed Arsenal on goal difference. With the top three teams at least nine points ahead, Villa are battling with Arsene Wenger’s men for a top four finish and a place in next season’s Champions League.

Aston Villa Football Club were founded in 1874 and was one of the 12 founder members of the football league back in 1888. The team nicknamed the ‘Villains’ or ‘Lions’, are the fourth most successful club in English football history, having won 20 domestic trophies; 7 First Division Championships (prior to the league being renamed the Premiership), 7 FA Cups, 5 League Cups (now called Carling Cup) and 1 Charity Shield. The Lions last trophy triumph was back in 1995/1996, when the team won the League Cup.

The Villains also have two European titles, having won the European Cup at the end of the 1981/1982 season and the European Super Cup in 1982.

Following the clash at home to Aston Villa, Liverpool have to wait until Saturday April 4 for their next Premier League. The Reds will travel down to London to take on Fulham at Craven Cottage.
