Liverpool and Spain number ‘9’ grabbed Spain’s final goal of the evening as the European Champions thrashed Azerbaijan 6-0 at the Tofig Bakhramov Stadium. Fernando Torres’ 19th strike for his country came three minutes from time following a lovely ball from Xavi. The forward calmly clipped the ball over the local keeper.

Spain added to a first-half hat-trick from Villa, his third coming from the spot, with second-half goals from Riera, Guiza and Torres.

The win stretches Spain’s unbeaten run to 32 games, as Vicente Del Bosque’s side set their sights on the current record holders Brazil (35 games unbeaten from December 1993 – January 1996).

Spain now travel to South Africa where they will face Oceania champions New Zealand in their Confederations Cup debut on June 14.
