Atlético was on the verge of coming back from Girona’s 2-0 of the first half. And did so with 10 players, after Griezmann's sending off. Correa and Giménez were Atlético’s scorers. Fernando Torres was on the starting eleven as it was his first game in ninth top flight season with Atlético and played 73 minutes before being replaced by Vietto.

Atlético de Madrid had class, courage and heart to tie with 10 players a game that was uphill. Correa, with a great goal, and Giménez, with a header, equalised the match in which Stuani had scored the two goals for the home team in the first half.

Before the sending off, Griezmann could have shortened distances with an acrobatic bicycle kick that just went wide of Iraizoz's left post. But a little later, the French international saw the red card and the team had to try coming back with one man down. Red-and-white players had faith, because Correa got Atlético back in the game with a great goal in the final stretch. Giménez scored the 2-2 five minutes before the final whistle and tried scoring the third goal that in the end did not come. A tie to begin LaLiga.
