Hard-fought win over AS Roma delay Group C decider to final matchday (2-0)

22-11-2017

There is a chance to dream. Atlético will face a final matchday decider at Stamford Bridge; all three points from London Group C last contest are needed as well as a draw or win by FK Qarabag over Italian side. It all is possible today after Spaniards did what was expected of them: to win. Atlético defeated Roma 2-0 thanks to Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro’s second half goals to secure the first continental win on new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Fernando Torres was on the starting eleven for the first time this season and played a 90-minute awesome performance up-front.

In the first 45 minutes, Atlético started off strongly and created numerous chances. Augusto Fernández scored in the first half, but the goal was called off due to a handball.

In the second half, the team came out strongly and kept creating chances. Fernando Torres was very proactive and produced several opportunities. In the final stretch of the match, a Torres ball found Ángel Correa who then crossed it to Griezmann and the Frenchman scored a beautiful overhead kick. A couple of minutes later, Griezmann assisted Gameiro for the second.
