I want to beat Madrid for the first time

08-01-2005
I want to beat Madrid for the first time“It’s just three more points, but there’s no doubt that this is a big game because we’re up against Real Madrid. Provided that we win this game, the morale of the team will be raised for the games that follow” was Fernando’s analysis of tomorrow’s match against Real Madrid. He continued “I didn’t see the six minutes against Real Sociedad but they seemed to be happy. They’ve got a new coach and new methods, but we’re going to try and make sure that their winning streak doesn’t go on. It’s been ages since we last beat them and we’re strong at home this season. We’ve got more at stake than them- I want to beat Madrid for the first time.” Torres spoke about the build up to the big game: “I can’t wait for kick-off. You know this match is coming up days beforehand because of the atmosphere. There’s a sense of optimism because the team is playing well at home, we’ve learnt from mistakes made in previous home derbies and we hope that this year things are going to be different. We’re stronger than we were last year- to beat Madrid we have to be more organised than them and know how to take the game to them, and that’s what we’ve been working on all week..” Torres spoke about Atletico’s latest signing, Jesper Gronkjaer :"He’s got a lot of desire and he’s settling in really well. We’re really happy with him, he’s one of the lads and he’s going to give us a lot of options down the flanks.” Finally Torres was asked who, in his opinion, was Real Madrid’s most dangerous player: "Raul, no doubt. Any one of them could finish us off but he’s always there or thereabouts. Besides, he does well against Atleti.”
