The weekend round of matches in England and Spain have left Vicente Del Bosque without three players for Spain’s two upcoming European Championship qualifiers. Fernando Torres is one of the trio of players who will miss the matches against Lithuania (Friday October 8 in Salamanca, Spain) and Scotland (Tuesday October 12 in Glasgow). The Liverpool number ‘9’ was forced off in the tenth minute of Sunday’s Premier League game against Blackpool. The striker felt a slight twinge in the groin area and was replaced by David Ngog.

The forward’s absence will no doubt be felt by Spain after Torres hit a double in his country’s last outing away to Liechtenstein. Vicente Del Bosque will also be without Barcelona’s Pedro Rodríguez and Seville’s Jesús Navas for the double header. The Spain boss has called-up Bruno Soriano (Villarreal F.C.), Borja Valero (Villarreal F.C.), Pablo Hernández (Valencia C.F.) and Aritz Aduriz (Valencia C.F.) for the two matches. The players will join up with the Spain squad at the team’s headquarters in Las Rozas.
