Having renewed his contract until 2018 at Atletico Madrid, striker Fernando Torres is confident about what the future holds for the club. Their recent performances in LaLiga and Europe have given the side a great belief, according to Torres, who has big ambitions for his boyhood heroes.

“It is a strange year of great challenge, due to the difficulties we face -with the transfer sanction-, but the enthusiasm and desire from our players remains the same,” he said.

“This team has proven our qualities many times. We had to rise again after Milan and did that. We will fight for everything and, with one more year together, the results can be better and more positive”.

“It is a must to dream big and positive.

“This squad has some very good young players and I believe that we will complete a better season than the previous one.”

Although the contract renewal with the Red-and-white is only for one further season, Torres is hopeful that it will not be the extent of what remains in his Atletico career.

“I'd like to stay here forever. I want to finish at a good level, playing for the club where I want to be. This is the place I'm most motivated and enjoy my football.

“Every detail about playing for this team is important, such as playing in the final year at the Calderon where every match gave you so many memories and emotions. I wouldn't have experienced that at any other club.”
