Liverpool will be looking to end the group stages on a high and also avenge their 2-0 defeat in Italy when they face Fiorentina in the final Group E clash on Wednesday, kick-off at 19:45 hours (GMT).

Fernando Torres could return against the Italians at Anfield after recovering from his nagging groin injury. Last week the Spaniard worked alongside his teammates, and coach Rafa Benitez hopes that the forward could be back for the midweek clash. "He took part in a full training session yesterday and he will train again today in a light session," Benitez told club official website "If everything is okay, he will be on the bench (against Fiorentina). It will be better to have him on the bench, let him have a proper warm-up and afterwards give him some minutes."

The Italian outfit go into the match two points clear of second-placed Lyon, and all they need to do is match or better the French side’s result at home agianst Debrecen to end the group stages in top spot.

After results on Matchday 5, the Reds can no longer reach the last 16 of the Champions League. On 24 November Liverpool beat Debrecen in Hungary but a win for the Italians at home to Olympique Lyon sealed the Viola a top two finish.

The Anfield club’s victory against Debrecen assured Liverpool third place in Group E and direct entry into the Europa League. The Reds will be in the draw for the last 32 which will take place on 18 December. The draw in Switzerland will also be made for the last 16 of the Uefa's new-look tournament.

The first ever meeting in Europe between Liverpool and Fiorentina took place on Matchday 2 of the Champions League. The Reds fell to a 2-0 defeat in Florence as first-half goals from Stevan Jovetic sealed all three points for the Italians.

Following the Champions League group game at home to the Viola, the Reds turn their attentions to the Premier League and a massive game against Arsenal on Sunday.
