The lottery of the penalties ended with Atlético de Madrid third final of the continental showpiece. Torres suffered a penalty by Pepe but Griezmann’s shot crashed on the crossbar in the first minute. Far from affecting Atlético, it was an incentive, the Atlético domain began and a series of actions that brought Red-and-whites closer to the goal. But the tie came in the final stages of the match thanks to Carrasco after a measured cross by Juanfran from the right.

The extra-time began and did so with a powerful Atlético, superior to its rival, accumulating scoring occasions and corner kicks, locking up Real Madrid in their field.
