Red-and-whites clinch a spot in the UEL last 16 (1-0)

22-02-2018

Atlético de Madrid defeated FC Copenhagen 1-0 on Thursday night and qualified for the Europa League Round of 16. An early goal by French striker Kevin Gameiro put the local on the driving site and led Red-and-whites to a second leg comfortable win (5-1 Agg). Fernando Torres was on the starting line-up and played the full 90 minutes with a good display up-front. It was his first game with Atlético in UEFA Europa League competition, as he played 14 games before with Chelsea and Liverpool FC with an awesome record of 10 goals.

The local dominated the match in the Wanda Metropolitano and Kevin Gameiro scored a beautiful goal in the 7th minute to give our side the lead (5-1 on aggregate). Atlético kept dominating possession and had chances to double the lead.

Fernando Torres had a great chance to score the second, but his header went wide. Later in the match, Andersen made a great save to deny Gameiro. The rest of the match was calm and 'los rojiblancos' were in complete control.

The draw to determine our rival in the Round of 16 will take place on Friday at 1 p.m. in Nyon, Switzerland.
