Red-and-whites close gap at the top after home comeback over Real Sociedad (2-1)

02-12-2017

Atlético de Madrid beat Real Sociedad in an epic clash in the Wanda Metropolitano, thanks to a second half comeback win. It wasn’t an easy task, even more with a spectacular performance of visitor’s goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. Red-and-whites had to work hard to level the opener by Willian Jose (28’) from the kick-spot. In the second half Filipe Luis scored the equalizer (60’) and Griezmann completed the 2-1 final score three minutes from time. Atlético are now third in LaLiga with 30 points, six below league leaders Barcelona. -La Liga Table-

Fernando Torres came onto the pith on 69’ replacing Gameiro. Atlético’s number nine was on the bench after his brace on midweek Cup fixture against Elche. He made an impact up-front creating one of the most outstanding chances of the second half but Rulli saved the shot.

The Basque side scored the first of the evening when Willian José converted a penalty. After conceding, Atlético created chance after chance to find the equalizer. However, Gerónimo Rulli was spectacular in goal for ‘La Real’ and denied numerous Atlético opportunities.

In the second half, Atleti kept pushing and Filipe Luis scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute. In the final minutes of the match, Antoine Griezmann scored the winning goal and the Wanda Metropolitano went wild.
