Liverpool face Reading at Anfield on Wednesday, kick-off at 19:45 hours (GMT) in the third round replay of the FA Cup. By the end of the night there will be a winner. If the game is level after 90 minutes, extra-time will be played, and if the scores are still level, the match will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Despite the adverse weather conditions that have been affecting the country over the past week, the match at on Merseyside is set to go ahead as both sides clash for a place in the fourth round of the knock-out competition.

The two teams met in the first fixture of the 2010 in a match played at the Madejski Stadium on January 2. The home side took the lead through Simon Church after 24 minutes, before Steven Gerrard equalised for Liverpool 12 minutes later. Fernando, who played the full 90 minutes of the cup clash, almost scored a last-minute winner, but unfortunately for the visitors his header looped agonisingly over the bar.

Due to Sunday’s postponed game at home to Spurs (re-scheduled for Wednesday, January 20, kick-off 8pm GMT) in the league, Liverpool’s last run-out came against Reading in the FA Cup. The Royal’s last match also came against the Reds. The Berkshire club were due to play league leaders Newcastle last Saturday, but the game was also postponed because of the freezing weather conditions.

Liverpool have won four and drawn one of their six meetings with Reading. The Royals are currently struggling in the Championship in 21st place. The Reds opponents are just two points above relegation having played one game more than their closest rivals. The Royals, who have won just five times in the league so far this season, have collected 23 points from 24 matches played

The prestigious FA Cup is one Liverpool’s main objectives this campaign, along with a top four finish and the Europa League, which kicks-off in February.

Against Reading in Wednesday’s replay, the Reds will be hoping to book their place in the fourth round next round and a home tie against Premier League side Burnley.
