Fernando Torres was the guest star at the radio programme ‘Intermedio’ of Radio Marca Satiton, where he analyzed the clues of the derbi that will face up Real Madrid and Atletico next Sunday at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The forward answered during an hour the questions formulated by the managers of the programme, Paco Garcia Caridad, Eduardo Garcia and Alberto Ruano as Toshiba Manager, the Japanese technology multinational that sponsors ‘Intermedio’.

About his feelings about the match against Real Madrid, Torres commented that the Madrilenian derbi “is a different match. Since the previous days you realized is different for the people, but it isn’t a special motivation due to be Real Madrid the rival, but for what it means for the fans. And even more when it’s been so long without winning them. It isn’t special scoring Real Madrid, I prefer not scoring and winning, although I feel like doing it because it is the only team in the first category I have left. But Bernabeu Stadium doesn’t impose me. Simply we don’t play well against that team; a single player doesn’t win or lose a match. It’s not a matter of pressure; simply they are matches in which they have been superior”.

At the time to name a favourite, the forward pointed out that “If Atletico is better or worse than Real Madrid it will be seen at the end of the season. The teams are very similar, although they have more experience and that at clue moments of the season could be more important. Both teams receive few goal occasions and is going to be a match very tie. Real Madrid likes to be at defense and to play fast break. Maybe we’ll take advantage of playing at his stadium because they have to open on the field by requirement of their fans. I think is going to be a very worked and hard match”.

Number ‘9’ warned about the advantage that could obtain the team that score he first goal at Bernabeu. “The team that scores first will have a lot on its favour. The rival will have to play open and the spaces will suit us to get the most of the speed of our players. It doesn’t matter who will be the protagonist of the match, the most important thing is that he’d be in our team and that will help us to win. This year in Atletico we are going to have many protagonists, it will not depend so much on a few players, more players could win the match supporting themselves on the team”.

The red and white captain said supported words to number ‘7’ of the National Team, Raul Gonzalez: “When things go well or wrong critics always pointed out to the most important player, we are talking about Raul. This is unfair. Raul isn’t the only responsible, it’s all the team. It’s being two years that he is the center of critics, and the team mates are here to support him because for us it has never existed that discussion. It would be strange for me not seeing him in the National Team, I have seen him a lot in the team and he is the flag of the National Team”.

Both players, team-mates in the National Team, will meet next Sunday at Bernabeu Stadium: “He has been for a long time in Real Madrid joining the greatest players of the world during many years, and he has always faced the consequences. People cannot deny him what he has given, and what he will give in the future. He plays good matches against Atletico and I hope it would be an exception next Sunday”.

There was time to analyze the situation in which Pablo Ibañez is: “It is a situation very delicate for him, especially at Calderon Stadium. Many fans won’t forgive him, they are within their rights, but they have to realize that Pablo is a very important player for us. We are lucky to count with him in our team, and each time they blow him it damages all of us. Each one is quite free to do whatever he wants, but don’t harm the team, because the last thing the football supporters wants is their team to lose”.

Torres analyzed the new project of Atletico for this season: “We have signed what we needed; something added to the base from last year has formed a good team. It seems we are having the luck we have missed other years, and step by step the team is growing up. It will be at the end of the season when we will see if everything has been made correctly or not. Many players are going to bring commitment, like Maxi and Aguero, that with great offers from all Europe they have decided to play in Atletico. That’s because they believe that they could achieve great things in this team”.

Regarding to the new coach, Javier Aguirre, the captain declared: “He is doing a good job and you can see it reflected in the matches. He’s a coach that took a team –Osasuna - that didn’t have resorts to the Champions, and now he has marked the goals to return to Europe a great team like Atletico. When you accept a challenge with so much pressure things can go bad, but at the moment everything is going well”.

Regarding to the marked goals for the end of the season, Torres pointed out “I would like to fight with this team in the League, to be in Europe. Those are moments that I have lived as a fan and I would like to live them as a player. I wouldn’t like to leave this place without achieving that”.

The Atletico forward considers favourites to fight for the championship “Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. Barcelona is above but not always wins the best one. Atletico doesn’t have to bear the pressure that have those teams that have fought for the championship the last five or six years. It is better to be aside and stay high in the table at the end of the season”.

“All of us dream to get the title of the League, but the team has to get to Europe first. If we trust on this team, in a period of three years it will have high goals, but with seven or eight new players every season its difficult to aim the title. For that we need time, as it happened to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia” he added.

Finishing, the player from Madrid assured that “every Atletico supporter that had bet for the victory in the derbi, sure that after a long time they are going to win”.
