The winner was Solidarity

16-06-2005
The winner was Solidarity Cystic Fibrosis, a terrible congenital illness, was defeated in the charity match between the Friends of Fernando Torres and the Friends of Jorge Larena, in Las Palmas. The solidarity shown by players and coaches collaborating with this cause turned into a great sporting event that thrilled the more than 10,000 fans that gathered at the Gran Canaria Stadium.

On the sports side, the victory was for the team leadered by Fernando Torres, scoring five goals to the two scored by the Canaries players that made up the team Friends of Jorge Larena. Unfortunately, Torres wasn’t able to play due to his ankle sprain, suffered in the National team match against Bosnia. But he enjoyed watching the game from the line. With two minutes remaining for the finish, a sudden power-cut put a definitive end to the match and a crowd of fans took advantage to invade the pitch to get close to their idols.

In the end, solidarity was the real winner in Las Palmas. All the income from the sale of tickets, the Row 0, and the donations from Las Palmas Town Council, the Town Hall and other sponsors will go to the Oliver Mayor Foundation against Cystic Fibrosis. The ‘Row 0’ account will remain open during the next months for those who want to want to put do their bit in favour of this charity.
