18-05-2005
Torres played his hundredth game in Primera against Real Betis He is just 21 years old but Fernando Torres can say that he has already played 100 games in the Spanish Primera Liga. The young striker achieved this number against Real Betis wearing the captain’s armband in the Vicente Calderón. He is the youngest ever Atlético to reach this centenary.

His debut in the premier division of Spanish football in season 2002-2003 is long gone. In these three years, the striker has scored the important statistic of 48 goals, averaging 16 per season. In the current league championship he is the top scorer among the Spanish players, with 16 goals in his card with two games left in the tournament.

These numbers have made Fernando a key placer in the team. He is the in-field player with most minutes played this season in the domestic championship, with 3,396 minutes in 36 games. In all of them Torres was part of the starting eleven, being substituted only twice: once against Sevilla, with four minutes remaining and with a clear 3-0 in favour of Atlético; and, recently, against Deportivo de la Coruña, after 20 minutes of the second half, and with the Spanish Cup semifinal in sight.
