Liverpol defeated the Lions at the packed Singapore National Stadium 5-0 with goals from Voronin, Riera, Nemeth (2) and Fernando Torres. The Spanish striker played the final half an hour of the friendly as Reds ended their Asian tour in impressive form. Torres’ first goal of the pre-season came on 80 minutes as the striker rolled the ball into the back of the net following a Kuyt cross.

The Anfield club found the going tough against the hosts during the first-half. Singapore defended with 11 men behind the ball for long periods, as they set their sights on reaching the break level.

The deadlock though was finally broken on the stroke of half-time. A good turn and shot from Voronin beat Hassan in the Singapore goal to give Liverpool the lead.

Second-half substitute Albert Riera doubled the Merseysiders’ lead after collecting a cross-field pass from Mascherano. The Spaniard gave Hassan no chance finding the back of the net with a neat left-footed finish.

To the delight of the crowd Rafa Benitez brought on Fernando Torres for Benayoun on 61 minutes, and the striker almost made it three for the Reds with his first touch, but the ball was cleared behind for a corner.

With just over fifteen minutes left on the clock, Krisztian Nemeth hit Liverpool’s third following some good work from Kuyt.

Fernando Torres got on the scoresheet with ten minutes remaining, tapping home a cross from Kuyt. The goal was the striker’s first of the pre-season in what was the forward’s second appearance following a 10-minute ran-out against Thailand.

Liverpool laid seige to Singapore’s goal and just three minutes later Kuyt was again the provider as the Dutchman crossed for Nemeth to make it 5-0.

Next-up for the Reds are Spanish club side Espanyol in Barcelona on August 2.
